KJ Architects were approached by a family in Cambridgeshire to help them extend their Grade 2 listed house, into a more spacious family home.
Our client wanted to demolish the existing extension to the rear of the property and for us to design a new 2 storey extension. This would provide them with an open plan contemporary family room/kitchen on the ground floor and two extra bedrooms with en suites on the first floor.
The clients’ brief included reinstating the front bedroom as it was originally, by removing the existing en suite bathroom which served the rear bedroom.
Within our designs, we incorporated their requests of a new downstairs cloakroom, a large utility room adjacent to the kitchen with plenty of storage, a lockable storage area for the family bikes and a spacious study. We also provided our client with window details, ensuring that the new ones were in keeping with the historic style of the building.
Gaining planning permission on a listed building can sometimes cause issues, so KJ Architects supported our clients throughout the entire process. We started by carrying out a full survey and prepared a sketch scheme for approval. The next step was to prepare detailed drawings and begin a planning application for listed building consent.
Once everything was approved, our detailed plans and drawings were passed onto trusted contractors who completed the building work. The clients were extremely pleased with the results, taking full advantage of their new spacious and elegant family home.
